Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Malnutrition remains a major public health challenge in Nigeria, particularly in rural areas such as Misau LGA, Bauchi State. Childhood malnutrition negatively impacts physical and cognitive development, contributing to long-term health issues and socio-economic disparities. Public relations (PR) plays a vital role in combating malnutrition through awareness campaigns, community engagement, and advocacy for policy interventions. PR strategies such as media campaigns, grassroots mobilization, and stakeholder collaborations have proven effective in promoting nutritional education and encouraging behavioral change. Recent studies underscore the importance of strategic communication in addressing malnutrition and fostering sustainable solutions (Ibrahim & Dogo, 2023).

1.2 Statement of the Problem
